A message to Hostplus members from David Elia

To our valued members,

You may have seen media reports over the past 48 hours regarding a cyber incident affecting several superannuation funds, including Hostplus. Understandably, this has caused concern, so I wanted to update you directly to provide further clarity and peace of mind on the current situation.

We want to assure you that our experience of this event has been different in both nature and impact to what has been reported.

We acknowledge that a spike in suspicious activity was recorded by the fund over recent days, however we believe that the strong security safeguards we have in place, including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Web Application Firewall (WAF), combined with heightened monitoring protocols have helped mitigate any impacts.

Importantly, we can confirm that no financial losses have occurred.

Understandably, the strong public interest in these events has prompted a large number of members to attempt to log-in to their accounts simultaneously. This has placed significant demand on our systems and caused some intermittent disruptions to our online services, including Member Online (MOL) and the Hostplus mobile app.

We recognise how frustrating this can be and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to restore all services to normal operation as quickly as possible.

If we detect any issues with your account, we will contact you directly and, if required, place a temporary block on your account to keep it secure.

We continue to work closely with cybersecurity experts and relevant authorities and remain on high alert, with enhanced monitoring and protective measures in place.

I will provide a further update should additional information become available, or the situation evolves.
