Hostplus recognises that choosing to operate a self-managed super fund (SMSF) is a large undertaking. On top of compliance and administrative matters, SMSF investors must prepare and implement an investment strategy to reach their retirement goals.
The key to successful long-term investing is diversification, so risk can be spread. In 2019, Hostplus set up our Self-Managed Invest (SMI) product. It allows SMSF investors to call on our expertise and access our unique, diversified assets and investments while still enjoying the control and flexibility an SMSF offers.
We’ve now released three new pre-mixed options within our SMI suite of investment options:
Capital Stable
Capital Stable is Hostplus’ lowest risk diversified pre-mixed option and focuses on fixed interest, cash, listed equities, property, infrastructure, private equity, credit and alternatives. It ranks in the top quartile for accumulation investment returns over 15 and 20 years, compared to similar options.1
Conservative Balanced
Conservative Balanced is split roughly evenly between growth and defensive assets. It can be good for those with a medium risk appetite – investing in listed equities, fixed interest, cash, property, infrastructure, private equity, credit and alternatives. Conservative Balanced ranks in the top quartile for investment returns over 10 years, compared to similar options.2
SRI–Balanced
This is an option for SMSF investors who seek opportunities that align with their personal values. Investments aim to create a positive impact while earning strong long-term returns via companies and assets that contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This option also seeks to avoid exposure to particular industries and business practices such as fossil fuels, companies that breach human rights or labour rights, uncertified palm oil and tobacco. Split across assets with growth and defensive characteristics, this option helps develop tomorrow’s solutions to today’s challenges.
CEO, David Elia, says:
"Through Hostplus SMI, SMSFs have access to our well diversified options to help protect them from market volatility and industry downturns – including accessing investments that may otherwise be unaffordable. Pooling funds with our 1.6 million members, SMSFs also enjoy other Hostplus benefits like professional investment management fees under 0.9% (excluding performance fee and transaction costs) and our online portal to invest, switch options and withdraw – with ease."
